On Friday the 30th October all the classes concentrated on the topic of Halloween.

• The 5th class and 4th class increased their Halloween vocabulary by writing words under relevant pictures, by playing Halloween bingo (which was loved by all) and by completing a Halloween word search. In addition to this the 5th class watched 10 minutes of the first Harry Potter film while the 4th class completed a Halloween inspired menu.
• In the 3rd and 2nd class they traced Halloween words and matched them to pictures, played Halloween ’slam’ and traced a Halloween children’s poem. We finished off with a Halloween ‘Simon says’ with each child playing ‘Simon’ in turn.

I’m a little late with Friday’s update, sorry.

• In the 5th class we finished the unit concerning be. We created a profile for Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and we finished with a word search of magical creatures.
• In the 4th class we finished the busy town unit and began a new one entitled shopping. With it we revised types of food and expressed what we liked and didn’t like.
• In the 2nd and 3rd class we answered and traced questions about what toys we liked to play with. We learnt/revised the concepts of leftand right, by tracing our own hands and by hilariously labelling body parts.

It was a good week and the children really enjoyed themselves.

What a wonderful day.

• In the 5th class we continued with elaborated the verb be. We described animals (real and imaginary). We described feelings. We created a profile of Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and finally we played hangman.
• In the 4th class we added to our Busy Town unit. We revised numbers (tens and hundreds). We Completed a letter with missing words, We matched transportation names and pictures and finished up with a transportation word search.
• In the 2nd and 3rd class we spoke about toys and matched words with pictures. After becoming familiar with the words with played a game of Slam. Which they really loved. We cut out and matched Tweenie characters with their toys. We drew and named toys on the blackboard. We sang Jelly on the plate and ended with a game of Simon says.

As I said, it was a wonderful afternoon.

Today we finally started our preschool English club.

• We began with our regular ‘Good Morning’ song.
• We remembered colours.
• We learnt the names of some shapes and looked for them around the room.
• We sang ‘Jelly on the plate’ and ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’.
• And we remembered the features on our faces.

Phew, it was a busy 45 minutes. .

Another week successfully completed and here is what we did.

• In the 5th class we continued studying the present simple of the verb be. Principality we studied adjectives and used them to describe feelings and bodily attributes. All with a touch of Harry Potter!
• In the 4th we continued to explore the places found in towns and cities, including the completion of a postcard home.
• In the 3rd and 2nd we traced some introductory conversations and asked for each other’s names and ages. We studied the names of toys and looked at the concepts of above and below.

A new English Club season at the Barcola Preschool will begin on Friday. What a busy day Friday has become!

This year we will be only the third year will attend. There are just too many children.

Hooray, Today we had the first session of the academic year. And we are all still alive and kicking!

The 5th class concentrated on the verb be in its present simple form. We completed exercises in both its positive and negative form. The verb be will form the basis of the 5th class’s first unit.

The 4th class began their ‘busy town’ unit. We concentrated on places around the town and the alphabet.

The 2nd and 3rd classes started their ‘I am me’ unit. We concentrated on body parts, colours and the alphabet. We revised and sang  three songs; The alphabet song;  Head, shoulders, knees and toes; and One potato, two potato.

All in all it was a great start.

It seems that the 5th class has moved from a fascination with  Star Wars to a fascination with Harry Potter. Therefore we will start our English club season with a Harry Potter theme.

While not every activity will be related to the Harry Potter story, I will ensure that a large percentage of them are.

We will start simply with worksheets and exercises concerning the verb be, then we will move onto adjectives to describe people, and then expand the present simple tense to include a range of other verbs.

I look forward to the fun of the classroom and am now busy preparing the materials.

Tweenies

Tweenies is a television programme aimed at young children, broadcast on the BBC. The programme is set in a nursery attended by the four Tweenies: Milo, Jake, Bella and Fizz.

It is my intention to use clips from the Tweenies series, along with some related material during  the first phase of the 2nd and 3rd classes English club.

This phase will me divided into four units:

□       I am me!

□       I’ve lost my train.

□       I’m scared.

□       Bad mood story.

The length of each unit will depend on the material found and the children’s interest. Details of each week completed will be found here.

Parents of the new 4th class, I have just discovered that the treetops workbook 3a that your children recieved last year is empty and has not been used.

It is a nice workbook and so we will use it! It will be a great way to revise what the students studied in their regular English class last school year and give us a fimilar base that we can build upon.

So bring the Treetops workbook 3a to our first English Club session.  :)
